This is so STUPID! We requested to put up a playscape in our backyard for our kids to play on (we already have it, we just relocated and need to put it back up). We requested from our HOA. They came back and said we could but that we had to plant an 8 foot evergreen between the playground and the 10 foot easement to the fence line at the midpoint of the playset.
So basically they want us to plant a Christmas tree immediately behind a playscape that our kids will be playing on, leaving no fall zone, etc. They say it will block the view of the playset, but the tree has to be 8 ft and the playset is 12. Plus the playset is about 30 feet wide and the top of the evergreen will only be very small at top.
So, that being said, is there an evergreen tree that would work for this situation? Oh yeah, my son also has VERY BAD outdoor allergies, so playing anywhere near a tree daily in Texas where allergies are bad anyway will not be good. So one that has low allergens would be good too.
Or, is there a way I can talk them out of this ridiculous request?

I want to replace the top on my gazebo which lasted only a year. I noticed that a nearby playset has a cover that is in perfect condition yet several years old. (what is the difference in material?) what is the best kind of material to buy?

I am looking for an outdoor play structure for my 3 year old. I want something she and her sister can grow with. Probably wood. I would like 2 swings and perhaps a slide. I would like solid construction. Does anyone have any sets they are particularly happy with? Any buying advice on such an item?

I’ve acquired a used outdoor wooden playset/swingset that is about 7 years old. I believe it is cedar wood – a Rainbow system, if that means anything. Anyway, I want to restore it to its glory days as it is quite weathered in some areas. Some boards have rot and I intend to just replace, but the majority of it is in fair condition. My question is how to I clean and then maintain it? Will a low pressure wash harm it or should I just use the garden hose? Any special chemical or soap I should use to clean it? Any other tips or ideas and things to look for would be great. thanks

Hello,
We just bought a relatively small-medium sized plastic kids playset and placed it on grass only. Will this harm/kill the grass underneath? Is there a better surface to place the playset?
Thank you!

My father wants to build us an outdoor playset, similar to the rainbow playset styles, but I want to make sure he gets lumber that will be affordable, safe and last for the children. I know we couldn’t afford expensive lumber like those of the Rainbow sets, but does anyone have advice for comprimises?

Do it yourself backyard work has always been one of my favorite things about spring. Whether I am adding new swing set accessories to my daughter’s playground, working in the garden, building myself a tool shed, or doing some other activity, I love the chance to get out into the nice cool, sunny weather and enjoy myself. After being cooped up all winter, who wouldn’t? Nonetheless, this year I had an unusually ambitious activity. We needed a new backyard swing set. Apparently, the swing set backyard had had to put up with one too many winters. It was old and decrepit, and it looked so frail that I didn’t really trust it to support my daughter. Although it was my first project of the year, I was looking forward to building new backyard swing sets.
Swingset backyard structures are really pretty easy to build. As long as the chain is attached well, the frame is sturdy, and there are no obstacles nearby, a swing set backyard structure can be set up by barely virtually anyone. This year, however, I wanted to make something special. My daughter has always wanted a tree swings, so I decided to start with that. After all, it was easier than setting up the whole swing set backyard frame all at once. Instead of a normal tire swing like most people use, I decided to make something deluxe. I had a seat attached to the rope, one that she and a friend could comfortably sit on together. It looked good, and it gave me the confidence to go onto the next project. Apparently, I haven’t lost my touch.
Building the wood swing set backyard was quite a bit harder. You see, I don’t like to use kits. It isn’t so much that I don’t believe that they are well made or that I think that I can do it better, as that I enjoy the experience of measuring, planning, and executing a project all on my own. Efficiency is not my goal – fun is. I decided to make the backyard swings out of a modular design. That way, I could build them over weeks, finishing one part and then getting to work on the next while my daughter played on what I had already created. It was actually the middle of the summer by the time I finished the whole swing set backyard, but she didn’t mind and neither did I. It was so much fun to build!
